Google PageRank updates

On October 30th 2009 Google updated their PageRank. Google usually updates their page rank 3 to 4 times a year. The last update was June 25th 2009

Page rank is one of those bench marks that means everything and nothing.

Would I want a higher page rank? Sure why not, but having a higher or lower page rank is not associated with how much traffic or revenue a website gets so why are we so many interested in it’s value.

We have been doing some SEO tests on Flipsem.com and when our page rank was 2 we threw links at a high competition keyword, when we hit page one we noticed that we were surrounded by websites with a PageRank of 4-6.

So what is the Google page rank for and why is it so important to us? My gut feeling is it’s more for Google to create a stir and give webmaster some goal to strive for and further solidify the strength of the brand whilst displaying the importance of the higher PageRank website websites.

Am I right? Who knows, but I expect the debate and quest for a bigger number and a longer green bar will continue.

Pointless as it sounds I’m looking forward to a PageRank of 6 and a very impressive long green bar.
