<p><strong>If you have visions of using that website to drive targeted traffic to your website because you need more sales this article is for you.</strong></p>
<p>I don&rsquo;t expect to win any friends with this post. If fact I expect to be slated for what I am about to share with you, but what you are about to discover is the truth.</p>
<p>I&rsquo;m on the side of <strong>&quot;The customer&quot;</strong> because before we set up flipsem.com, many years back I used to be <strong>&ldquo;The Customer&rdquo;</strong>!</p>
<h3>The scam </h3>
<p>If you are a business with a website and no traffic then this could have happened to you. In fact, I am aware of companies who have spent &pound;1000&rsquo;s on websites and have been victim of this. I can only think of one word for this and that&rsquo;s a scam, designed only to line the pockets of those who either know they are scamming, or worse those that don&lsquo;t. </p>
<p>Either way you <strong>&quot;the customer&quot;</strong> are not the priority!</p>
<h3>Be honest with yourself </h3>
<p><strong>No matter how much you love the look of your website be honest with yourself did you just want a pretty box on a screen or did you want a maketing tool that works? </strong></p>
<p>How many of you reading this post have had a website designed and it sits there with no traffic and no sales. </p>
<p><strong>Were you promised traffic?</strong> Were you promised sales? Where you promised a dramatic up-turn in business once your website was been built? Maybe you didn&rsquo;t ask what you could expect, and maybe you should have been told. </p>
<p>Did you sit there month after month wondering why you have not received what you were promised?</p>
<p>Did you contact your agency and then were given an answer that either you were unhappy with or that you did not understand so you gave up?</p>
<h3>Shameful practices </h3>
<p>This is a very common and shameful practice amongst many website designers not to tell it&rsquo;s customer that if they have a website built without SEO or without a continuous spend on advertising then they could just be wasting their money. </p>
<p><strong>If the customer knows that without some kind of traffic driving mechanism their website is unlikely to attract visitors. If they still decide to go ahead then that is their choice, taking that choice away is what I find unforgivable.</strong></p>
<h3>There is more... </h3>
<p><strong>The next scam is the web designers and SEO companies that promise you traffic and deliver pretty much only one thing THE INVOICE! Or worse, they get your website banned from the search engines.</strong></p>
<p>As in any industry, there are good companies, bad companies and damned dangerous ones for your business.</p>
<p>As the customer, it's your job is to know what you are buying and that means getting educated fast, before you either waste your companies&rsquo; money or destroy your chances for good.</p>

<h3>So how is it done? <br />
I will share with what we did to improve the website ranking in the search engines for our site. </h3>
<p><strong>We started by creating content. There are nearly 200 pages in this site all written by us. This is what the search engines want, the more content you have the more traffic you&lsquo;ll get especially if your site is new.</strong></p>
<p>This site and blog is 7 months old at the time of this post we are on page one of many keywords that provide us with regular targeted traffic.</p>
<h3>Keywords</h3>
<p><strong>Our first goal was to discover the keywords that people might use when searching for our services. </strong>We then created a page for each keyword we use a maximum of 2 keywords per page. </p>
<p>We use a number of data centres for our research, but to be honest you can&rsquo;t go far wrong with the free <a href="https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/KeywordToolExternal" target="_blank"><u>Google keyword tool</u></a>. It will tell you the search volume for any keyword in the previous month.</p>
<p>We started by optimising for local traffic as this was easier to rank on. An example is &ldquo;email marketing Aylesbury&rdquo; competition is only 44,300 and we are page one position one for this term.</p>
<p><strong>The local search strategy is great when you&rsquo;re first starting out.</strong> Popular keyword terms will take longer to rank on, but it&rsquo;s good to know what you really want in the long term as well as the short. It&#8217;s possible to rank high on competitive terms, but it takes work.</p>
<p>Once we have chosen our keywords and applied them to our site we then run an optimisation check to see if we have applied the keyword to our website in the right way.</p>
<h3>Keyword analysis for on and off page factors </h3>
<p><strong>This check analyzes the top 10 sites on the keyword we want to rank on.</strong> It then provides us with a 88 page report that tells us exactly what changes we need to make to ensure we achieve our goal this check has been key to our success so far.</p>
<p>The search engines will not tell anyone how to rank high, but the sites that are already in the top 10 will all have done something similar to get there. Our report tells us what they have done and compares it to our site. </p>
<p>We run this check on our customer&rsquo;s sites before we hand them over. We have had a 100% success rate on page one ranking for home pages so far, we would not be without it &hellip;<a href="http://www.flipsem.com/top-10-seo-report/" target="_blank"><strong><u>check it out here</u></strong></a>.</p>
<h3>Backlinks </h3>
<p>The report also tells us if we need to improve our backlinks. Backlinks are important because search engines use these link to gauge the authority of your popularity within your industry. Note, all links are not equal in power, so a link form a non-related industry site is  going to have far less power than a high page rank of 7 website in your industry. </p>
<p><strong>Links are always a challenge, a necessary evil of SEO becuase they are harder to get and time consuming, but critical if you are serious about getting serious volumes of traffic.</strong></p>
<p>So we make a plan to get other sites to link to us. If your keyword is competitive then the backlinks start to play a big roll in how you rank. What&#8217;s important is that you use the keyword you are trying to rank for in the link on other sites. Also use variations of those keywords in the links so your links are seen as helpful and not just spam.  </p>
<p><strong>Online directories for your market are the best if you are starting out</strong>. Make sure that you use the keyword you are after on your home page when you&rsquo;re asked for your &ldquo;company title&rdquo; in these directories.</p>
<p>DO NOT put your links in directories that are not related to your industry. If they have a section for your industry that&rsquo;s OK, but industry specific is best.</p>
<h3>In summary</h3>
<ul>
<li><strong>Chose your keywords, start with your local terms such as: &#8211; &ldquo;your keyword(s); + Your town + your county + your country</strong></li>
<li><strong>    Write your content help your potential customer understand you, your company and its offers. It&#8217;s better to be helpful than hard sell. </strong></li>
<li><strong>    Get industry specific backlinks only, because this works in your favor.</strong></li>
</ul>

<p>Most small businesses decide that they want a website and go in search of a company or a designer to create that website for them.</p>
<p>The reasons are varied, some think they should have a website because their competition has one. Some buy a website thinking they will make lots of money through addition revenue from their services.</p>
<h3>No plan equals no revenue </h3>
<p><strong>I can tell you now that most website owners are either disillusioned because their website has done nothing for their business, or fed-up with the lack of traffic to their website.</strong></p>
<p>These small businesses all have one thing in common. They don&rsquo;t have a plan for what they want their website to do for their business.</p>
<p><strong>The small business brief is usually this, simplified example, but this is fairly usual: </strong></p>
<ul>
  <li><strong>Customer: I want a website for my company.</strong></li>
  <li>Designer: What do you want it to do?</li>
  <li><strong>Customer: We just want people to know we are here so we can sell more of our products and services.</strong></li>
  <li>Designer: Great lets get started.</li>
</ul>
<p>The designer builds the website and the business owner sits and waits, and waits, and waits. No traffic no sales and no enquiries!</p>
<p>The reason this happens is because the website owner has no real goal. They don&rsquo;t really know what they want to achieve in either sales or enquiries. </p>
<h3>Great questions equals great answers </h3>
<p><strong>When you have a clear goal, what you have then created is great questions. Why am I not achieving my goal what&rsquo;s stopping us getting there? What steps need to be taken to get us to where we want to be?</strong></p>
<p>The problem is most web designers don&rsquo;t know how to get you to where you want to be even if you asked. They know how to create you a website, but web designers are not marketing professionals.</p>
<h3>A website is a marketing tool </h3>
<p><strong>A website is a marketing tool not a pretty picture with words on the web</strong>. Even a &pound;99.00 website is money wasted if you don't know what you want it for and then track if is achieveing that objective. </p>
<p><strong>Below is a idea of how you can turn your website into far more than just your average site. </strong></p>
<h3>Where the real money sits online </h3>
<p>I once read this quote below and I had to think about it to understand it. Bear with me because there is an amazing opportunity for your business, I&rsquo;ll explain&hellip;</p>
<h3>&ldquo;Information about information is more valuable <br />
than the information it&rsquo;s about&rdquo;</h3>
<p><strong>The internet GURUs make a fortune by understanding this very concept and it can be applied to most businesses.</strong></p>
<p>Internet Gurus make a great deal of money telling people how they made their money on the internet. They actually make more money telling people how they got rich than they ever did by just doing it. </p>
<p>In fact, it&rsquo;s been used for years before the internet was even conceived. The TV Times provides information on programmes, and it makes a fortune doing it. Craigs List is now a multi-billion dollar company simply provides information on behalf of millions of other people.</p>
<p>The list of information providers is vast. These big companies simply provide information to a mass audience at a low price or for FREE and create revenue through either the brand or advertising.</p>
<h3>What's this got to do with you?</h3>
<p>So this is all great, but what does it have to do with you and your business? If you run a business, you are going to an expert in what you do. What that means is, you have information that&rsquo;s valuable.<br />
  If it&rsquo;s valuable then there is a strong possibility that if that information was packaged well then you could sell that information to your niche market.</p>
<h3>This could be in the form of an</h3>

  <li><strong>Ebook</strong></li>
  <li><strong>    Membership website</strong></li>
  <li><strong>Webinar</strong></li>
  <li><strong>DVD&rsquo;s</strong></li>

<p><strong>What&rsquo;s great about these types of products is they can be used for virtually any business and can make serious amounts of revenue.</strong></p>
<h3>We call this &ldquo;Making money while you sleep&rdquo;</h3>
<p>These product are actually easy to make, they are not expensive and can literally rocket not only your revenue, but also your expert status within your market.</p>
<h3>Let&rsquo;s look at a simple plan so you can see the potential</h3>
<p><strong>The goal is to increase the revenue potential of your business whilst not affecting your day-to-day time.<br />
  Most small businesses use time as their commodity and there are only so many hours in a week so the earning potential is capped. </strong></p>
<p>Any business can do this from accountants, to massage therapists to marketing consultants the list is endless.</p>

    <p>That 5% (50 people) that bought are now more likely to buy again, and so you can start to promote higher value items. So lets assume that 10% of those 50 bought a membership to other products at &pound;20.00/month.</p>

    <p>So now, through two simple pieces of information you have made &pound;2199.00</p>
    <p>Now imagine if you re-launched this plan every 2 months added more products such DVD&rsquo;s or you held a paid for webinar. Now you could times the &pound;2199 x 6 months, that&rsquo;s now an extra &pound;13,197 just for creating two simple products.</p>
