This is a bit off topic from my normal posts, but at the end of the day we are all interested in how to make money fast. This is an astonishing story especially for the lucky few...
On the 29 June 2009 The BBC reported that a 20 pence piece without the date was released by mistake by the Royal Mint. Coin collectors at the time had quoted the mistake would make the coins worth in the region of £50.00 each.
Not a bad find, but it seems that the frenzy for cash has really taken off. Today 4th July 2009 I have been watching the bidding frenzy on eBay with great interest.
A collection of hopeful sellers are attempting to sell their lucky find for £10 million. I feel they could be pushing the boat a little too far.
However we watched one shrewd seller put his rare 20 pence on eBay for 99 pence and made a remarkable £4,700, amazing! After a little digging we found more…
A 20 pence piece sold on eBay for a whopping £1.7 million on a “buy it now” with free postage, you have to give a little hey!
Maybe you have million pound coin in your pocket or maybe you know of a bigger sale, either way we'd all like to hear your story.

has been watching confused folks bid BIG£’s for normal 20p’s because of the "MIS-MINTING" error in the news. £450 for a normal new 20p OUCH!
July 6th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
I’ve just been watching this on ebay too, one is up for sale for £1,200,000.00 thats £1.2 million!
I really want one of these!!!
July 6th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
What’s really sad is the buyers who are not checking to see if the sellers coin is the right error version. It seems that some people are buying a standard 20p coin for £100’s
July 8th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
I honestly think thats just 2 people messing bout or something cos i got 1 on there an theres alot more on there for a lower price than that, so why wouldn they buy them 1s instead ini, its jus silly lol
July 8th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
i have one and have advertised it for 5000 lets see how lucky i get, i dont mind holding onto it, maybe looking at the news and ebay i should up my price and sit back with crossed toes and fingers lol
July 9th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
do not sell your 20p coin if it has no date on either side because this will be worth more than millions in the future
July 13th, 2009 at 9:42 am
I have a real undated 20p coin, i have listed it on ebay for alot less thatn 1.7million, however if someone is willing to settle for 1.5million outside ebay im happy for negotiations hah.
my listing is here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=290331014894
ebay item n0; 290331014894
happy bidding

Does anyone actually believe that over a million pounds changed hands for one of these coins? Are you crazy?!!!! Most likely, what Danny said (above) is correct and a couple of mates have been messing around - this in turn has caused numerous chancers to put their coins (whether they’re real or not) on at a “Buy it now” price far higher than the coins will ever fetch. I think the highest genuine sales will be around £300 and in the future, the coins may well be worth more, but never into the millions as they are not rare enough.
July 13th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Yes you have a point and we did not witness the £1.7 million sale. However we did watch 20p go for £1000’s live on bid.
Be interesting if anyone has the facts on the big sales!
July 18th, 2009 at 1:29 pm

September 2nd, 2009 at 2:00 pm
for everyone trying to sell undated 20ps. in 1983 the royal mint made a mistake on the 2ps. now, 26 years later if you’ve got one in mint condition ul be lucky to £700 for it and they were more than 10 times rarer. the 20ps r only worth anything at all because the london mint has been offering £50 each for them. its true in about 20 years they will be worth £1000 plus. and just so everyone is clear the ones on ebay that have sold for £7100 and £1.7 million have not been paid for.

Hi
I have been quite intrigued with this subject as I managed to find one of these undated 20p pieces myself.
I have taken photographs of mine and even started a blog at http://www.20p-undated.blogspot.com/
The latest entry in the blog is to describe the change made to the redesigned 20p coin with the date intended on the heads side as opposed to the tails as with the previous 20p from 1982 to the redisign of 1 2008 which had the date on the middle on the tails side. This was in response to the pictures of the ones offered for sale showing a dateless tails side(which all new 20ps have)
I have not got around to putting mine for sale on ebay as there are too many of these listed and last entry in my blog shows one ebay listing where the seller is asking for £10 million - is anyone going to ask for higher LOL?
The only thing for certain is the I have resisted the lure of London Mint’s offer of £50. They can’t be offering £50 each to make a loss.
Best Wishes!
David.

November 24th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Well, after reading al the blogs, I reckon I got a good deal for £250, [mint (uncirculated) validated undated 20p, + gold plated last of the old 20p, + dated mint new 20p, also gold plated, + gold ingot + validation certificate]. For those not aware, the London Mint, which is a private company, is not the same as the Royal Mint. Separate open auction valuation in the real world is prob around £300-400, and those who got on the bandwagon early have paid too a high a price for several years, possibly decades, until the market value catches up, since there are several hundred undated around. Not as good as a 1933 old penny, of which there were 12 made, each valued at ca £75,000!
